Job Description:
An exciting opportunity exists for Local Laws Officers to join a dynamic and fast paced environment in the Regulations Team at Townsville City Council. This rewarding role is on the frontline of services offered by Council to the local community with a broad range of responsibilities.
The position is permanent full time and involves working within a great team. The successful applicant must have the relevant knowledge and experience as outlined in the attached position description.

Job Responsibilities:
- Providing high level customer service to members of the public and internal stakeholders.
- Complex Investigations of breaches under Local and State Laws
- Investigation skills, including the ability to gather and present sustainable evidence for prosecution in court in relation to offences under legislation.
- Compiling briefs of evidence, including statement taking.
- Animal management, which includes containing loose dogs and other animals, conducting inspections, ensuring compliance for Regulated Dogs.
Job Requirements:
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent; or demonstrated knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training in a customer service role, preferably in a compliance/enforcement field.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills, including the ability to influence others to achieve positive outcomes, particularly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to act independently in resolving problems often involving disputation or interpersonal conflict, by the use of advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, showing initiative and good judgement to make decisions resulting in sustainable outcomes
- Demonstrated commitment to serving the public and community and ability to work as a highly effective member of the team.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently handle animals.
- Demonstrated well developed oral & written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise written documentation, eg: for later use in legal proceedings.
- Demonstrated competency in using up to date technology (including software programs and mobile devices) to complete Regulatory or Enforcement tasks or responsibilities.
- Current Queensland “C” Class driver’s licence.
- Participate in a rotating on-call roster for afterhours service to the public and shift work.
- Knowledge of local government functions, particularly the regulatory functions within the local laws.
- Knowledge of local law enforcement procedures, including the issuing of infringement notices
- Ability to interpret legislative requirements and apply them effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to effectively manage time, plan and organise work
