Job Description:

This is a permanent, full-time position working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm) and will be based at the Nowra Administration Building.
The position works effectively and with sensitivity in matters and issues relating to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within each grade shown. The grade on commencement will be contingent on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience as outlined in the job description. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the commencing grade. Progression through the salary steps is based on the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
This is a designated Aboriginal position as authorised by Shoalhaven City Council’s EEO Management Plan and Aboriginal Employment Strategy in accordance with Part 9A of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate appropriate strategies to meet the needs of the identified target groups through research consultation, liaison and advocacy.
  • Partner with individuals and community groups to develop projects, events and activities to build stronger communities.
  • Develop and maintain business and community relationships and networks across the Illawarra and Local Government entities to disseminate information, assist with service development to build community capacity, social connection and sustainability.
  • Facilitate cooperation and coordination among voluntary, community, private and government organisations working with target groups.
  • Seek government, corporate and community funding for the development of services and facilities to and for the relevant target group.
  • Ensure policy development around matters and issues of importance to relevant target groups
    and local government.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated effective time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to balance competing workloads and deliver within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and submissions, including grant funding application and disbursement
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with relevant industry sector software and applications
  • Previous experience working with stakeholder committees
