Job Description:

This position sits within the Governance, Communications and Engagement department and is responsible for Council’s adherence to general legislative compliance ensuring Council’s governance policies, practices, performance and reputation is industry leading. This position also acts as Council’s Freedom of Information and Privacy Officer.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring Council’s level of compliance with various legislative requirements.
  • Develop processes to ensure systematic compliance with governance principles in line with the Local Government Act and other legislative obligations.
  • Act as Privacy and Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer and provide strategic oversight and advice in relation to Council’s legislative obligations.
  • Provide governance and administrative support services to the Mayor and Councillors.
  • Undertake projects, assignments and other administrative duties as requested.

Job Requirements:

  • Thorough working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982, Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and other related processes and procedures.
  • In addition to Local Government Act, knowledge of and expertise in Operations of Council including Code of Conduct, Code of Meeting Practice.
  • Demonstrated achievements in community engagement, customer service excellence and continuous improvement in service delivery.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience writing reports, online content and correspondence.
  • A tertiary qualification in governance, business, management or related discipline will be highly regarded and/or demonstrated relevant work skills and experience in a similar role.
  • Previous experience working in a Governance role
  • Demonstrated ability in improving business processes that deliver better customer outcomes and experience.
