Job Description:

This position sits within the Waste Services Department and is responsible for overseeing the waste management facilities in Gloucester and surrounds in an effective and efficient manner. The Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring these facilities operate in accordance with Councils Waste Management Strategy and the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Licence.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Gloucester Waste Management facility in accordance with relevant environmental legislation and specifically the site Environmental Protection Licence.
  • Implement the site Pollution Incident Response Management Plan (PIRMP) as required.
  • Plan and organise day to day tasks and allocation of work including but not limited to cash handling, staff rosters, timesheet approval, site safety, security and compliance checks, waste cell construction and operation, equipment pre-start checks, weighbridge operations and Resource Recovery Shop (Tip Shop).
  • Develop and implement site plans for effective diversion of recoverable waste from landfill.
  • Supervise, lead and support staff within the Landfill Services team including volunteers and contractors to carry out works in accordance with the Landfills, Transfer Stations, operational and management plans, Environmental Protection Licences, budget, and to the required technical, safety and environmental standards.
  • Formulate and deliver an ongoing site works program including site and building maintenance, stormwater and leachate systems.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills, to proactively plan tasks and responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
  • Investigate and follow up complaints to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor existing contracts.

Job Requirements:

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in the waste management industry, regulatory environment and disposal techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively whilst developing and maintaining team operations.
  • Demonstrated competence in medium plant operation.
  • Basic understanding of legislative requirements associated with landfilling.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role.
  • Proven cash handling and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage project budgets.
  • Sound research, analytical and problem solving skills with the capacity to examine complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Current Class MR drivers licence.
