Job Description:

The Theatre Technician reports to the Theatre Technical Supervisor and is responsible for the technical production and delivery of Karralyka’s seasonal, professional, and amateur shows; liaising with customers who hire the theatre; and all aspects pertaining to the technical operation and use of the facilities and equipment in the theatre. The Theatre Technician is also responsible for assisting with the delivery of Functions AV and technical services and equipment, ensuring all function AV and tech are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Theatre Technical Supervisor including advice on technical, audio visual, staging and artistic services available to clients and potential clients.
  • Supervise aspects of, and provide support for, a client’s technical operations in the theatre, plus performances/events in other areas of the centre where required.
  • Support a client’s event by operating lighting controls and/or audio controls to provide visual and audio enhancement to the performance.
  • Act as Centre Duty Manager when the theatre only is in operation.
  • Assist in the maintenance of assets, properties and effects, and attend to the regular service and maintenance of that equipment as directed.
  • Other duties as reasonably required by the Theatre Technical Coordinator and the Centre Manager.
  • Ensure the best use of the Karralyka Theatre by maintaining the theatre facilities at a high standard and providing high quality customer service and production advice to theatre clients.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in Technical Theatre/Live Production or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in working a professional theatre including liaising with clients regarding technical requirements, and strong customer service skills.
  • An excellent work ethic and be a strong team player with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • You must be able to work a variety of hours including weekends as required.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in both lighting and sound setup, patching, checking is desirable.
  • Experience in operation of Digico SD series sound consoles, sound design, running sound checks and PA setup
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of technical operations (i.e. electrical, sound, lighting and
    rigging) for theatrical productions in a professional environment.
