Job Description:
To progress Council’s climate emergency response by implementing projects aimed at reducing Council’s environmental footprint and supporting climate change action across the community
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare plans and inform programs aimed at reducing Council’s greenhouse gas emissions and broader environmental footprint as set out in Council’s Environment Strategy.
- Work with staff across Council to implement sustainability initiatives through behavior change programs, building upgrades and / or capital works projects.
- Support the development of community climate change action plans and support community initiatives for sustainability.
- Inform Council’s response to the climate emergency for both emissions reduction and monitoring progress towards a goal for Zero Net Emissions, and for climate adaptation.
- Work with Council staff and the community to identify and support emission reduction and water saving opportunities in the community.
- Advocate externally for improved environmental standards and climate change action
Job Requirements:
- Good knowledge and demonstrated experience about environmental sustainability and climate action, both within the context of a local government organisation, and within the community
- Knowledge about organisational action required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and monitor progress towards emissions reduction goals.
- General knowledge of sustainable design principles and their application to public buildings.
- General knowledge of the energy and water sectors, including state and federal
government policies and programs related to climate change and sustainability
