Job Description:

The S&T6 Discipline Leader Sonar Performance Modelling and Analysis will lead a multidisciplinary team who conduct research and provide specialist advice to Defence on the predicted performance of military sonar systems operating in complex undersea environments, with emphasis on exploiting knowledge of the environment to optimise the employment and performance of these systems. This includes the design of studies that use physics-based models to predict the performance of military sonar systems and the exploration of analysis techniques and data representations for translating these results into military relevance and impact.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other DSTG teams to apply knowledge of the undersea environment and sonar systems to a range of studies, decision-support capabilities, and development of concept demonstrators;
  • Engage with key Defence stakeholders and national and international partners concerned with measuring, modelling, and exploiting knowledge of the undersea environment for military effect;
  • Clearly communicate complex technical results and their implications to Defence stakeholders and the scientific community; and
  • Lead the planning, and ensure delivery, of the Sonar Performance Modelling & Analysis Discipline’s research program;
  • Lead, mentor and develop staff, and inspire a security and safety-conscious team culture;
  • Contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the UESE STC.
