Job Description:

The Assistant Parliamentary Liaison Officer (PLO) is part of Government Division which is responsible for providing advice, briefing and support to the Prime Minister in relation to public administration, including machinery of government; parliamentary and electoral matters; the government’s legislation program, legal policy issues; Australian and foreign honours; and Australia’s national symbols. The Assistant PLO is located at Parliament House during sitting periods with the House or Senate PLO. Please note, during the sitting period the hours can be long, from approximately 7.30am to as late as 8.00pm or when business concludes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Dealing with enquiries, correspondence and operational issues
  • Preparing computer based reports
  • Liaising with ministers’ offices and departments on the progress of legislation
  • Assisting in the preparation of the forward and daily programs
  • Assisting in monitoring the state of the Chamber and contacting ministers as necessary
  • Undertaking research on parliamentary issues
  • Assisting with the tabling of government documents and Ministerial Statements.
