Job Description:

As an Inspector in the ABF, you perform an important leadership role. You will be working under the broad direction of the Superintendent to develop and lead high performing teams to deliver on a range of strategic and operational priorities in a risk-based environment. You will undertake work that is complex in nature, working under limited direction with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability in alignment with the APS Integrated Leadership System (ILS):

Job Responsibilities:

  • Exercising sound decision-making and judgment through a risk-based approach, making real time decisions, sometimes in situations without precedent, and escalating where required
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of intervention activities, in accordance with legislated powers, to address non-compliance or threats to the border
  • Ensuring team members are correctly Interpreting and applying legislation, guidelines and instructions, policy and procedures
  • Overseeing the day to day-to-day operations of a work area, ensuring work is allocated and resources are being managed in accordance with set priorities
  • Coordinating and undertaking detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the agency
  • Actively developing and managing key stakeholder relationships within and outsides the agency
  • Building officer capability, nurturing talent, motivating and managing the workforce
  • Being accountable for and driving the objectives and priorities for the ABF
  • Developing and driving change initiatives with a focus on working smarter not harder
  • Promoting and ensuring team members behave in accordance with WHS legislation, policies, directions and reasonable instructions in relation to work health and safety
  • Providing dynamic leadership – fostering a positive and engaged work environment, promoting and supporting a culture of achievement and excellence
  • Actively modelling appropriate workplace behaviours and demonstrating the highest level of personal accountability, ethics and integrity.

Job Requirements:

  • Attain and maintain relevant medical, fitness and psychometric standards

  • Deploy at short notice across a range of operational domains
  • Obtain and maintain essential and role-specific qualifications.
