Job Description:

Antarctic Operations and Safety Branch plan, coordinate, facilitate and deliver operations for the Australian Antarctic Program by safely resupplying and sustaining the Antarctic Stations and building operational capacity to deliver future Antarctic projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Effectively managing the section’s annual budget allocation and monitoring expenditure, including forecasting capital budget requirements in reference to the division’s strategic framework for future operations
  • Leading the prioritisation and establishment of strategic project teams to ensure supply chain capabilities and systems meet future operational demands and resourcing requirements, including the effective oversight and analysis of key deliverables
  • Forecasting resource requirements and implementing sustainable resourcing plans to meet the AAD’s strategic objectives
  • ensuring that business continuity plans are reviewed and updated annually to preserve the critical functionality of the AAD’s supply chain operations
  • Through high-level, succinct reporting, providing assurance and visibility to the General Manager and the AAD Executive of the section’s preparedness and current state of core supply chain functions
  • The proactive identification, monitoring and management of risks and issues arising through the seasonal delivery of the AAD’s end-to-end supply chain
  • Liaising with counterparts in the wider department and with other Whole of Government, commercial or National Antarctic Program stakeholders with respect to the advance planning, assessment and implementation of operational cargo support requirements
  • Providing high-level support and advice regarding logistics capabilities and constraints for consideration by strategic project teams and the Executive.

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively adapt and respond to the demands of living and working in an isolated and confined environment as determined by a psychological (adaptability) assessment
  • Demonstrate the range of personal qualities and interpersonal skills necessary to perform as a successful team member within isolated Antarctic and sub-Antarctic environments
  • Be certified as fit for Antarctic service by the AAD’s Polar Medicine Unit.
