Job Description:
The Senior Legal Adviser supports the Principal Legal Adviser and provides client-focused high level, specialist legal and strategic advice and support to Comcare staff to ensure compliance with statutory obligations. The Senior Legal Adviser will resolve problems and manage risk effectively and manage their own workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal Comcare procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing Comcare’s freedom of information function including reviews and appeals and acting as Comcare’s liaison with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
- Receiving Public Interest Disclosure (PID) and co-ordinating PID investigations
- Acting as Comcare’s liaison with the Commonwealth Ombudsman and preparing responses to their enquiries and investigations
- Delivering Comcare’s privacy function including actively promoting privacy, developing training, undertaking Privacy Impact Assessments and ensuring all Comcare activities are consistent with the Privacy Act
- Assessing and reporting on Comcare’s model litigant compliance
Job Requirements:
- Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
- Current Practising Certificate.
- Undergraduate degree in law.
