Job Description:

Coffs Harbour City Council has obtained significant State Government funding under the Fixing Country Bridges (FCB) program which aims to replace a number of aging timber bridges on our local roads and our neighbouring LGAs. As such, we are looking for a team of qualified professionals to undertake these works.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the daily planning of the works and ensure that targets are clearly understood and met.
  • Ensure all plant and tools assigned to you are adequately maintained.
  • Follow all instructions issued by the Works Supervisor and/or the Leading Hand.
  • Interpret construction drawings and understand construction specifications to ensure works are carried out in accordance with design and quality requirements.
  • Construct formwork and fix steel reinforcement to design dimensions and inside allowable tolerances.
  • Place and finish concrete
  • Understand the concrete placement, compaction, finishing and curing processes and carry out concrete works to ensure a structurally sound and durable finished product.
  • Assist with civil/earthworks as required
  • Actively contribute to the maintenance of the WH&S management system to ISO 45001:2018 and FSC standards to improve occupational health and safety, eliminate hazards and minimize WH&S risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of WH&S opportunities, and address WH&S management system nonconformities associated with organisational activities.
  • Understand your role and responsibilities in ensuring compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System including understanding specification requirements, Inspection & Test Plans and Verification checklists

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience, typically greater than 5 years, associated with bridge construction
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in formwork, steel reinforcement and concrete placement construction work, in a practical “hands on” capacity, with general knowledge of formwork design and installation.
  • Demonstrated numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Work Health & Safety Legislation
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
