Job Description:

This role reports to the Coordinator Financial Accounting and is responsible for the provision of high quality, efficient and accurate financial accounting and statutory reporting. The Senior Financial Accountant will facilitate, support and implement continuous improvement as well as help ensure statutory compliance and implement better practice processes in undertaking the financial accounting responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, prepare and lodge the annual Victorian Grants Commission return (VGC).
  • Reconcile the general bank account on a daily/monthly basis and initiate journal entry adjustments as required.
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly/quarterly basis and within the time frames specified, including journals as required as well as liaising with other service areas/external providers.
  • Coordinate, prepare and lodge the annual Fringe Benefits Tax return.
  • Administer the Corporate Purchasing Card facility including the management and maintenance of Council’s card expense management system, recording of the expenditure within the general ledger and liaison with issuing bank.
  • Responsible for ensuring the compilation and production of the annual audited financial statements, grant acquittals, performance statement and/or financial evaluations of prospective tender applications as required for the organisation.
  • Coordinate the financial leases work required for end of year reporting purposes, as per the requirements of AASB 16.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills, especially in providing advice on complex financial issues
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting, forecasting, and preparation of financial statements and budgets
  • The provision of high quality, efficient and accurate financial accounting and statutory reporting
  • A comprehensive understanding of Goods and Services Tax (GST),  and Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT)
  • Working effectively in a supportive team environment with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • The ability to set priorities and prepare work plans to achieve set objectives with minimal supervision

Qualification & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting / Finance and completed or working towards a CA or CPA with several years of relevant accounting experience
  • Demonstrated financial accounting experience including general ledger reconciliations, month end
  • Demonstrated experience in completing financial year end processes, such as the compiling end
  • Experience providing high levels of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the use of financial software and Microsoft Office
