Job Description:

We have a unique leadership opportunity for a highly motivated, qualified and experienced individual with strong communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills to join our team as the Open Space and Community Facilities Manager.
This pivotal role will effectively manage the provision of the open space and community facilities including planning and policy, financial reporting, parks sporting fields and playground management, vegetation and open space management, community halls and centres, public pools and cemeteries.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage the cost effective delivery of ongoing recurrent maintenance of public open space, streets, trees and community facilities in accordance with Council’s Operational Plan and Budget;
  • Provide strong leadership to the staff in the Open Space and Community Facilities unit including goal setting, delegation, performance management, staff development, succession planning and fostering a high morale, high performing team;
  • Manage infrastructure planning, policy and operations for open space and community facilities including parks, sporting fields, playgrounds, reserves, cycle ways, community halls and centres, public pools and cemeteries;
  • Manage the programming, implementation and completion of council’s Capital Works Programs relating to open space and community facilities as detailed in Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) documents; and
  • Manage operational activities associated with Council’s Public Pools and Building Services.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree qualification in Recreational Planning, Facilities Management and or other equivalent relevant tertiary qualifications;
  • Demonstrated sound experience in a leadership role, supervising a multi-disciplinary team within a complex socio-political environment and the proven ability to foster teamwork and co-operation with staff, and ensure that positive outcomes are delivered for communities and organisations;
  • Demonstrated sound working knowledge and understanding of cemetery operations and the associated relevant legislation;
  • Proven ability to develop, promote and implement reforms, systems and policies within a continuous improvement environment; and
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills, including public presentation skills with the proven ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external and build effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation.
