Job Description:

As Project Engineer – Level Crossings you will assist the Program Manager to support the delivery of the level crossing element of the Inland Rail Program within scheduled timeframes, within budget and in a safe manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in reviews of level crossings designs and other level crossing related deliverables.
  • Facilitate the resolution of level crossing technical or safety issues as they arise through coordinating input from the nominated technical advisors, project teams and ARTC corporate representatives and getting agreement on the preferred solution. Lead the implementation of the solution where required.
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative reports regarding level crossings including preparing various technical and evaluation reports.
  • Provide advice and support to design, property, environmental and project teams with regards to level crossing related matters including standards, ARTC technical requirements, program documents, key stakeholder messaging and level crossing risk assessments.
  • Become a subject matter expert for the Inland rail Program on ALCAM, the Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model (ALCAM) and the associated level crossing risk tool. On the job training will be provided.
  • Support the Inland Rail Stakeholder Engagement team with stakeholder consultation and engagement activities including the development and maintenance of the relevant collateral including level crossing registers, SharePoint pages, factsheets and frequently asked questions (FAQ’s). Attend meetings, workshops and other forums as required.
  • Assist in the administration of contract, payment claims and variations, including ALCAM survey contracts and undertake site inspections and liaise with consultants and engineers regularly

Job Requirements:

  • You will be required to ensure all delegated work is completed to the standard required, on time and on budget while ensuring safety policies and procedures are complied with.
  • You have the ability to develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders and negotiate positive outcomes.
  • Ensure fair and equitable workplace practices and behaviours are complied with, creating a discrimination free workplace in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Ideally you will be degree qualified in civil engineering with a background in rail.
  • You have experience working in a project environment.
  • You have a strong commitment to working with stakeholders to deliver positive safety outcomes while looking for new or innovative ways to manage level crossing safety matters.
  • Participate in level crossing program delivery and undertake other duties as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with ARTC’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities.
  • Promote a safety culture within the team to conform with current Work Health and Safety (WH&S) and relevant Rail Safety legislation.
