Job Description:

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Member in AFP International Command’s Strategy, Design and Evaluation (SDE) team. SDE team members develop and deliver a range of international strategy, design, and monitoring and evaluation services for AFP programs both offshore and in Australia. SDE also has responsibility for coordinating the implementation of the AFP’s International Engagement Strategy, including several other Whole of Government and National Security strategies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support complex, multi-stakeholder projects and processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with AFP and external stakeholders
  • Provide ad hoc administrative assistance to support section tasks
  • Represent the AFP at inter and intra-agency fora and meetings
  • Support the delivery of strategy, design and evaluation processes
  • Research, analyse and formulate solutions to international security issues
  • Prepare good quality written and verbal briefings on complex topics
  • Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities.
  • Take responsibility for developing the technical capabilities of the team in a particular area.

Job Requirements:

  • A good understanding of the Australian Government foreign policy objectives and the AFP’s International Engagement Strategy
  • be able to represent the interests of the AFP in culturally and politically sensitive environments and foster inter-agency relationships ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships and networks
  • You must be an Australian Citizen.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • good interpersonal, analytical, and writing skills
  • ability to prioritise tasks to meet changing deadlines resilience and ability to work in a fast-paced working environment
  • ability to undertake short term (2-6 weeks) international travel, sometimes at short notice (this includes the ability to pass all pre-deployment gateways including integrity checks, medical and psychological assessment and associated training)
  • adaptability and resilience to dynamic, complex environments, and enjoy facing new challenges each day
  • ability to work as part of a team, or independently with minimal supervision.
