Job Description:

AFMA is seeking a suitably qualified individual to fill the role of Manager Monitoring & Surveillance, within the Fisheries Operations Branch located in Canberra.
The non-ongoing contract is expected to be for a period up to 3.5 years, with the possibility of the role becoming an ongoing one.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage team resources effectively and efficiently (staff, supplier, contract, financial) to deliver duties, including performance of staff, budget/expenditure, Work Health Safety (WHS) risks and training.
  • To provide leadership and direction to a team of people responsible for the delivery of program outcomes and to proactively develop, maintain and encourage a positive workplace culture
  • To support, develop and implement a cost effective and efficient compliance monitoring and surveillance programs for the Australian Fishing Zone (AFZ) and the high seas in consultation with Australian and international maritime authorities, the fishing industry, government and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead team engagement and coordination with other sections to deliver activities.
  • Lead engagement and coordination with stakeholders to deliver surveillance and monitoring activities.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Can demonstrate strong experience in working effectively and collaboratively within a small team and providing high-level leadership to optimise the performance of team members.
  • Has extensive experience and skills in providing expert advice that demonstrates an ability in the use and application of monitoring capabilities (e.g. VMS, CCTV, E Monitoring)
  • Will possess excellent communications and liaison skills and experience in liaising and negotiating with internal and external providers including international agencies.
  • Has relevant experience in researching and analysis data and making decisions based on expertise and in accordance with relevant frameworks, legislation and policies.
